There are local branches of PEG in Gauteng and Cape Town. Members who live outside either of these areas continue to be national members; residents of Gauteng or Cape Town are deemed to be national members and members of their local branch.
The primary function of the branches is to organise local events for their members; the committees will also represent members' interests at the national level through the branch chairperson, and exchange ideas for meetings.
The AGM (and hopefully an annual mini-conference) will alternate between the two branches. Further local branches can be created when the need arises. It is anticipated that the Gauteng branch may split into a Johannesburg and Pretoria branches in the not-too-distant future.
Background
Our constitution made provision for branches when the time should be right, and this has now come to pass. An application was received from Cape Town members to form a separate branch and as a result it was proposed that Gauteng should also form a branch. At the 2009 Annual General Meeting held in January this plan was accepted unanimously, along with other changes to the overall structure (see committees).Since then branch committees have been elected in Gauteng and in Cape Town.
