What books should an editor have on his or her shelf? This is always a thorny question, and with the price of books one unfortunately often has to be selective.
The list below is an excerpt from the list of books available to their members from the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (Sfep) in Britain. We have not included the prices, as only Sfep members are able to place orders, but are reprinting the list as PEG members may be interested to see what books are considered basic reference texts by editors in the UK. This particular list was published in March 2003.
